Your Responsibilities
It Is Up To You
It’s your life, your information and your privacy. That makes it your responsibility to protect it. Claiming that your failure to do so is because of your fear to try, or due to your ignorance of your rights, won’t help you fix the problem.
You are the first, and often, the only line of defense in protecting your privacy.
The less you say, share, publish or report about your private life the better.
In a “Facebook world” we have become trained to share more information about our lives than maybe is good for us.
From an early age most of us have been trained to answer “authority” with easy abandon or slight hesitancy but usually with complete disclosure.
Are you aware that most requests/demands for information from “authority figures” including employers, banks, corporations and government agencies are VOLUNTARY for you to comply with?
They ask sometimes in a demanding or intimidating way, often implying you have to comply with their request to provide information BUT they have no legal authority to compel you to provide the information.
They hope your ignorance of your rights, ignorance of the law and your fear of not complying will compel you to cooperate. If you do “cooperate” and provide the information that you are not BY LAW compelled to provide you have therefore done so VOLUNTARILY.
Yes, you may have felt intimidated, or that you “had to”. Fact is you didn’t have to. SO in the eyes of the law you provided the information voluntarily and therefore waived your right to privacy related to the information. Ouch.
It’s your responsibility to “know the law”, which FIRST means to know your rights and responsibilities. If you are of legal age you are deemed to know your rights, so you must have waived them voluntarily. RIGHT?
You have been tricked, deceived, kept ignorant, intimidated or “lead down the garden path”. Maybe all of them.
You’re an adult now. Reclaim your rights by becoming aware, educated and consistent in your defense of them, or not. It’s up to you. They are your rights to keep or waive.
Learn your rights. Learn your responsibilities. Hold the corporations, governments and criminals to task and make it tough for them to invade your life by stepping up to the plate and actively use the rights that the laws are written to protect but the laws require you to act first before they can assist you in defense.
